Wallace and Department of Corrections Host Summit of Hope
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Seeking to reduce recidivism, state Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford, community advocates and the Illinois Department of Corrections are hosting a "Summit of Hope" expo for local parolees on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northwest Community Center, located at 1325 N. Johnston Ave. in Rockford.
"When individuals return to our community after serving time, it can be difficult for them to find the next job or vocation that can allow them to move on with their life," Wallace said. "This often leads many residents to turn back to criminal activity. It is in our community's best interest to do what we can to break that cycle and offer opportunity for individuals to self-sustain and live a productive life."
Summit of Hope is an initiative of the Illinois Department of Corrections to provide a community expo that gives those reentering society the tools necessary to become a crime-free responsible member of society. Job services, healthcare, counseling and education are among the different services that are offered by expo venders. The event is invitation only to local parolees in each community. For Thursday's event, over 700 parolees were invited.
