US Senator Dick Durbin, Reps Luis Gutierrez and Tammy Duckworth join Illinois's business, faith, Latino and immigrant leaders to
support immigration reform in 2017
Joining National Citizenship Day , elected officials and business leaders will celebrate the integration of immigrants as workers, entrepreneurs and citizens. Recent Q3 2016 data saw a 32.1% increase in naturalization compared to the same quarter 2015

CHICAGO, IL — ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 19 2016 AT 9:30AM CST, the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition (IBIC) will host a forum to support commonsense immigration reform featuring prominent Illinois business leaders and Illinois's Democrat policymakers. Speakers will come together to address engaging bipartisan members of Congress on real solutions to our broken immigration system and pass comprehensive immigration reform in 2017 that expands visas for high and low skilled workers and agricultural workers, and creates a path to citizenship for undocumented workers.

Joining the national citizenship day celebration, speakers will discuss the national effort to mobilize employers and voters to support comprehensive immigration reform. Recent Q3 2016 data saw a 32.1% increase in naturalization compared to the same quarter 2015.

IBIC works to bring Republicans and Democrats together to advance real solutions to our broken immigration system that is good for business, good for our nation and good for Latino and immigrant families. IBIC's Democrat event follows IBIC's forum with Illinois and Florida Republican leaders to support immigration reform - press clips HERE. Passing commonsense immigration legislation in 2017 would reduce the federal deficit by nearly $900 billion and would strengthen Social Security by $700 billion.

WHAT: Roundtable discussion featuring US Senator Dick Durbin, Reps Luis Gutierrez and Tammy Duckworth, Illinois Democrat and business leaders on the topic of making commonsense immigration reform a reality in 2017 that expands high and low skilled visas, agricultural visas and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Joining the national Citizenship Day Celebration, speakers will also discuss the spike in eligible immigrants becoming citizens across the nation this year.

·  40% of Fortune 500 companies are founded by immigrants or children of immigrants

·  90% of patents from the University of Illinois has had at least one immigrant inventor

·  $5.4 billion in total net business income is generated by immigrant businesses in Illinois

- Naturalization - the process in which eligible immigrants become citizens - increases individual earnings an average of 8.9% or $3,2000, increases the employment rate by 2.2 percentage points, and increases homeownership by 6.3 percentage points.

·  Latinos and Asians in Illinois have purchasing power of $77.5 Billion

·  Undocumented immigrants pay $793.7 million in Illinois state and local taxes each year

·  Illinois would lose $25.6 Billion in economic activity, $11.4 Billion in gross state productive and 120,000 jobs if all undocumented immigrated were removed

·  Massive deportation would cost America $600 billion to implement while real GDP would drop by nearly $1.6 trillion and shave 5.7 percent off economic growth.

About IBIC: The Illinois Business Immigration Coalition promotes commonsense immigration reform that advances Illinois economic competitiveness, provides Illinois companies with both the high-skilled and low-skilled talent they need, and allows the integration of immigrants into our economy as consumers, workers, entrepreneurs and citizens. Senator Stadelman's Weekly Bulletin - September 12, 2016

Public hearing to probe unclaimed life insurance benefits
State Sen. Steve Stadelman will participate this week on a task force conducting statewide hearings to better understand how insurance companies avoid paying death benefits and how families can prevent themselves from being victimized after the death of a loved one.

Insurance companies have failed to pay more than $550 million in death benefits to grieving families in Illinois since 2011, according to State Treasurer Michael Frerichs who formed the Task Force on Unclaimed Life Insurance Policies. The task force, which conducted its first hearing last month in Normal, convenes next in Rockford:

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 14
11 am - 1 pm
Zeke Giorgi Center - 3rd Floor Legislative Conference Room
200 S. Wyman St.

Hearings are open to the public, although the task force listens to testimony from and questions scheduled witnesses.

Stadelman supported legislation introduced by Frerichs and recently signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner to require life insurers to use the federal Death Master File to identify deceased policy holders whose insurance proceeds have not been paid; the DMF is a secure and reliable database used by the Social Security Administration and other government agencies to fight waste, fraud and abuse.

Insurers who have sued to block audits by Frerichs' office argue that being obligated to determine when a policy holder has died will erode their profits.

Stadelman receives more pro-farm recogntion
Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Beuth recently presented State Sen. Steve Stadelman with the bureau's Friend of Agriculture Award  The award is given to state and federal lawmakers based on their voting records.
