Stadelman to host free youth basketball tournament on Labor Day
 
ROCFKORD – State Sen. Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford) will be hosting his fourth annual FREE 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament Monday, Sept. 5, at Davis Park. Senator Stadelman's HoopStars is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8.
 
Registration for the tournament is still open. Stadelman's office has set up an online page,
with more details where teams can get registered.
 
Kids and adults who aren't playing are encouraged to come watch the competition and support Sole Ballers charitable organization by giving gently used athletic shoes for distribution to needy young sports players.

Families attending the tournament may again enjoy music and kids' rides courtesy of Rockford United Labor, which holds its annual picnic for union members at the same time and place. Event sponsors also operate interactive courtside information booths with giveaways, and all players receive free commemorative event T-shirts. Additionally, some state agencies will provide informational materials about their services.
